History

We were annoyed. Two musicians with their roots somewhere in

Punk. Annoyed by a lack of progress, unreliable bandmates and

narrow limits in musical genres.

So we started with experiments and improvisations. Using

everything around in our bunker in Hamburg. And that was a lot!

In the beginning we did it without further ambitions. Having

the equipment, we made recordings from the very beginning

anyway.

This happened around 1999/2000.

Soon there was enough material for a CD. So we decided to

produce one, and we needed a name at this point.

Inspired from a trip to Japan we choose the (band?

project?)- name RADIO KYOTO.

So we became - uh - unfamous within a short time.

But from now the whole thing had a dynamic of its own. We were

invited to do live performances. We didn´t think of live gigs

or CDs in the beginning, so the first try of a gig turned into

a disaster.

The wild sound constructions seemed to be too complex to be

done on stage and far beyond the expectations of the

audience - who had come for a dance party.

Anyway, the first steps were made and this was the point of no

return. By now we made 11 CDs and a live – DVD.(seeManifesto“)

Stuff like this is difficult to be done live - but we did plenty of live performances in and outside Hamburg.

To mention some of them:

Elb – Art (In the historic Elbtunnel) (several times)

Meanie – Bar

Hörbar (B5) (several times)

Kaderschmiede

Fools Garden

Rote Flora

Wispa – Festival (Sauerland)

We had interviews and airplay in „Radio Gagarin“ on FSK.

Producing the soundtrack for the movie „Linienspiel“ by Kamilla

Nowicki was a result of connections with the HfbK.

(Included in the "Sound and Vision - section.)

Thinking that everything was just a joke in the beginning...

We are two Germans living in Hamburg, but we know that there are

buffs and nerds out there beyond Germany interested in this kind

of music. That´s why we have chosen English as the language for

our homeage. Pls. keep in mind that we are no native speakers...

Thanks!

P.S.: Many thanks to Ernst Blache for editing und uploading our Clips in Youtube...kind of a third bandmate.

NEWS:

March 2015:

Currently one of us suffers from an acute hearing loss since December. (Not connected with the music...) So we slowly start constructing new sounds again since two weeks.

July 2015:

The recording sessions for the upcoming new CD are completed, after the long interruption due to the hearing loss. It will be a double CD with a focus on "Industrial Sounds" (Not to be confused with the genre "Industrial".), including material from the last recording sessions plus a live - recording from the concert at the "Jahresausklangfestival" at the "Hörbar" in Hamburg, St. Pauli.

There is still a lot of editing to do.

May 2016:

There seems to be some bad karma about the upcoming double CD.

The editing is done, but there is still some delay about the artwork.

The loss of some close friends and relatives kept us from continous working on the projekt. May they rest in peace... and better times come.

June 2016:

We finally did it... the new double CD is called "Die Industrial Suiten" and is completed.

(A pre-testing of the new material in a live situation took place at the "Ausklangfestival" at HÖRBAR, Hamburg in Dec. 2014.)

April 2017:

RADIO KYOTO is currently suspended, because both members are working on other projects.

1.: The launch of a new project in a classic band context (Bass/Git./

    Voc./Drums)

2.: "RaBe", (dadaistic punk-poetry plus metal scraps)

3.: "MENTAL MACHINE MUSIC", electronic "wall of sound" driven to the

     extreme, drone, crossover distortion

But this is not the end, RADIO KYOTO will be back sooner or later to disturb your habits of listening...
